Laboratory Manager – Mackay

About the role

The Laboratory Manager will work closely with the Sample Prep Manager to oversee laboratory operations, ensuring optimal performance and exceeding customer expectations in the fuels testing sector.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct HS&E training and toolbox talks as required.
• Coordinate and manage workflow to meet customer expectations.
• Plan, write and deliver training programs for employees and trainees.
• Perform and supervise routine test work within set guidelines.
• Serve as the main liaison with existing clients to maintain expectations.
• Supervise and lead a team, driving daily production targets.
• Assist in on‑the‑job training and review processes to improve safety, quality and productivity.

Required profile

• Good working knowledge of laboratory procedures and sampling techniques.
• Understanding and implementation of quality control/assurance procedures.
• Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental principles.
• Ability to manage a large staff in a mining laboratory environment.
• Proactive, hands‑on staff management.
• Experience organizing competency‑based training programs.
• Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure.
• Strong organizational and prioritisation skills.
