Industry Professor – Machine Learning

About the role

The Industry Professor will provide academic, research and professional leadership within the School of Computer Science, focusing on machine learning and big data challenges that deliver societal benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Champion research excellence and its application across the school and institute.
• Develop early‑career and mid‑career researcher capabilities.
• Drive engagement with government and industry to secure large‑scale grants and proposals.
• Lead outcome‑focused research projects and manage research project delivery.
• Conduct core machine learning research to address contemporary big‑data challenges in social and business environments.
• Advance knowledge in machine learning and lead the creation of external partnerships.

Required profile

• Demonstrated success in impact‑driven machine learning research.
• Proven experience leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
• PhD in computer science or related field, or extensive industry experience.
• Ability to create funding opportunities through national and international collaborations.
• Experience managing risk, budget and cost for research projects.
• Familiarity with prototype development for business partners.
• Strong applied research background and experience attracting and managing research projects to completion.
