Head of Procurement (Mining & Natural Resources)

About the role

The Head of Procurement will lead the end‑to‑end procurement function for a leading ASX‑listed mining and natural resources company operating in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Based in Brisbane, the role combines strategic sourcing, supplier management and governance with hands‑on resolution of supply‑chain challenges across both countries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with project schedules, operational priorities and financial targets.
• Negotiate and manage strategic relationships with suppliers, contractors, freight forwarders, customs agents and service providers in Australia and PNG.
• Establish preferred‑supplier agreements, procurement frameworks and sourcing initiatives to ensure supply continuity and optimise commercial outcomes.
• Design, recruit, mentor and develop a high‑performing procurement team, strengthening local capability at corporate and site levels.
• Implement procurement policies, SOPs, delegated‑authority matrices and governance processes to support audit readiness and compliance.
• Lead the resolution of complex procurement issues, including customs clearance delays, logistics bottlenecks and cross‑border sourcing challenges.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in procurement or supply‑chain management within the mining, natural resources or heavy‑industry sector.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams across multiple geographies, including remote sites.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Papua New Guinea and undertake extended on‑site assignments.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering cost‑effective sourcing solutions.
