Head of Media and Public Relations

About the role

Lead the Penrith Panthers Rugby League Club’s media and public relations strategy, protecting the club’s reputation and delivering strategic communications that strengthen influence across the market and community.

Key responsibilities

• Lead media engagement, crisis communications, stakeholder communications and earned media activities.
• Develop and deliver the annual public relations and digital media strategy.
• Prepare media statements, speeches, talking points and briefing materials for executives, board members, coaches and players, and provide media training.
• Maintain reporting systems, analyse industry activity and measure campaign performance.
• Manage departmental budgets, wages and expenses and support revenue, gross profit and EBITDA targets.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing Digital Content team of four Content Producers.

Required profile

• Accomplished communications professional with strong people‑leadership skills.
• Ability to build trusted relationships and communicate with influence in a fast‑paced, high‑profile sporting environment.
• Resilience, sound judgement and composure for crisis and high‑pressure matters.
• Willingness to work on all NRL game days throughout the season and finals.

Required skills

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in public relations, media relations or communications.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship‑building capabilities.
