Head of Department – Student Engagement

About the role

The Head of Department – Student Engagement will lead the school’s wellbeing agenda, fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. This senior leadership position combines strategic oversight with a 0.6 teaching load, allowing direct classroom involvement while driving whole‑school improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework across the school.
• Develop and monitor proactive strategies to improve student engagement, attendance and wellbeing.
• Provide targeted support for individual students, including intervention planning and progress tracking.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, families and community partners to create inclusive programmes.
• Lead professional development for staff on wellbeing and behaviour management practices.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in educational leadership or student wellbeing roles.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse community groups.
• Commitment to fostering inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments.
• Ability to balance strategic responsibilities with classroom teaching duties.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework.
• Experience coordinating student wellbeing initiatives and intervention programmes.
