Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager

About the role

Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team is looking for a senior manager to shape and execute Australia‑wide public affairs strategy. The role will be based in either Sydney or Canberra and will work across product areas, regions and functions to bring external policy perspectives into the company.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the strategic public affairs direction for Australia, owning end‑to‑end workstreams for high‑priority policy programmes and advocacy campaigns.
• Collaborate with marketing, communications and other Google teams to amplify GAPP objectives and ensure cross‑functional alignment.
• Align local Australian policy priorities with global strategic investments, providing data‑driven insights to senior leadership.
• Engage with government officials, regulators, industry councils, academics and key opinion formers to influence policy outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 7 years of experience in public affairs, government relations or policy advocacy.
• Deep knowledge of Australian digital economic policy, technology regulatory landscape and frontier market dynamics.
• Proven ability to manage high‑stakes, fast‑moving programmes and anticipate regulatory impacts.
• Strong network with key opinion formers, academics and industry bodies across Australia.
