Governance and Legal Adviser Associate

About the role

Board Matters is seeking a Governance and Legal Adviser Associate to join its advisory team. This position focuses on research, analysis, and high‑quality written advice rather than traditional client‑facing legal work. The role offers exposure to a variety of governance consulting projects and the chance to develop specialist expertise in corporate governance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare concise, well‑structured written advice, briefing papers, reports and governance resources.
• Review constitutions, governance frameworks, board charters, committee charters and related policies.
• Conduct governance, legal and regulatory research across a broad range of topics.
• Analyse legislation, case law and governance developments to identify practical implications for boards and directors.
• Assist in preparing governance reviews, recommendations, client presentations, conference papers and educational material.
• Draft governance updates, legal summaries and publications for clients and the Board Matters website.
• Support consultants in proposals, workshops and client projects.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of Board Matters' governance resources and templates.

Required profile

• Intellectually curious with a passion for solving complex problems.
• Excellent research and analytical abilities, able to pinpoint issues that matter.
• Exceptional written communication skills, capable of translating complex legal or governance concepts into clear language.
• Legal background is highly desirable, though success depends on analytical and writing strengths.
