About the role
A client is seeking an FOI Lawyer to work on a six-month secondment, with possible extension, in Canberra. The lawyer manages and oversees Freedom of Information requests received by a high-profile federal government department.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the business area in processing FOI requests, including drafting correspondence to external stakeholders for consultation, reviewing documents and redacting them, and drafting decisions
- Assist with processing internal review applications for all FOI requests, ensuring compliance with the statutory obligations of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth)
- Represent the team with internal stakeholders and engage with external applicants when necessary
- Carry out any other FOI-related tasks
Required profile
- Previous experience as an FOI Lawyer in a federal government department
- Knowledge and understanding of the FOI Act and baseline clearance
- Australian citizenship
- Willingness to undergo any required additional employment suitability checks
