Fitter - Steel Recycling Operations

About the role

InfraBuild Recycling, a 2026 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work Gold Winner and World Steel Association Sustainability Champion, is looking for an experienced Fitter in Hexham, NSW. The role supports the InfraBuild Recycling business and involves maintaining, repairing and optimising mechanical systems in steel recycling and heavy industry, working with large-scale equipment such as hydraulics, pneumatics and processing machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Fault-finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency
• Install, test and commission new equipment in the recycling yard
• Service, overhaul and refurbish steel and processing plant and equipment
• Read engineering drawings, schematics and specifications for fabrication and assembly
• Deliver all work safely and in line with InfraBuild standards

Required profile

• Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade with at least 5 years' experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry or industrial engineering
• Proven ability to diagnose faults and apply preventative maintenance strategies
• Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement
• Tickets and licenses such as forklift, working at heights and EWP are highly regarded

Required skills

• Valves, pumps, actuators, hydraulics and heavy plant equipment
• Reading engineering drawings and schematics
