Leading Hand Fitter

About the role

InfraBuild Recycling, a 2026 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work Gold Winner and World Steel Association Sustainability Champion, is looking for an experienced Leading Hand Fitter in Hexham, NSW. You will run day-to-day maintenance on large-scale equipment such as shredders, mobile plant and processing machinery, and lead a team of 12 employees. The role suits a work-life balance with hours from 4pm to midnight Monday to Thursday and 3pm to 11pm on Fridays.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise employees and contractors across all maintenance activities and give leadership and technical advice to trades, operators and workers.
• Run daily toolbox talks and handovers, and supervise daily shredder and site pre-start checks.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns of shredders or mobile plant.
• Take part in maintenance and planning meetings and ensure SAP maintenance work orders are completed and updated.
• Drive continuous improvement in maintenance, systems and site safety, and deliver work safely in line with InfraBuild Safety Principles and operating procedures.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) with at least 5 years' experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry or industrial engineering.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience (desirable).
• Proven ability to diagnose faults and implement preventative maintenance.
• Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement, basic computer literacy, and tickets such as forklift, working at heights and EWP are highly regarded.

• $51.48 per hour plus 15% afternoon shift loading, a weekly tool allowance of $24.71, a weekly leading hand allowance of $54.43, 12% superannuation and overtime.
