Financial Controller

About the role

A newly created Financial Controller position in Brisbane, Queensland, for a privately owned Australian manufacturer and distributor of premium specialty construction products. The business is a multi-currency operation running modern SAP enterprise technology, and the finance function has grown in scale and complexity. The role leads a team of three and works closely with the Head of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month-end cycle and manage an expanding international tax compliance workload covering US state-by-state obligations and upcoming European requirements.
• Act as the internal champion for production costing, including building bill of materials structures, overhead recovery models and warehouse cost analysis within SAP.
• Lead a team of three and support the Head of Finance so they can focus on strategic leadership.
• Over the first six months, shape financial dashboards and develop cost intelligence for senior leadership, helping lay the foundation for an integrated ERP future.

Required profile

• CPA or CA qualification with comparable experience in a senior accounting leadership role.
• Genuine, hands-on production costing experience across BOMs, overhead recovery, labour and machinery allocation and variance reporting.
• Confident navigating multi-currency operations on a major ERP platform.
• Intellectually curious, commercially inquisitive and collaborative; willing to cross functional boundaries.
• Unrestricted working rights in Australia; pre-employment checks will be conducted.

Required skills

• SAP experience is a strong advantage.
• International tax exposure, particularly US state-by-state obligations or European VAT, is an advantage.
