Financial Accountant

About the role

A large, well-established organisation with a strong presence in Newcastle and the Hunter region is looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join its finance team. The role sits in a collaborative team and covers a broad mix of financial reporting, month-end work and contributions to improving financial processes. It suits someone who enjoys detail, takes ownership of their work and thrives in a busy, commercially focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
• Manage month-end processes, including journals, accruals and reconciliations
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
• Assist with statutory reporting, audit requirements and compliance
• Work with internal stakeholders to provide accurate financial information
• Identify ways to improve reporting processes and financial controls

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Financial Accountant or in a similar accounting role
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance
• CA/CPA qualification or progress towards completion
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines
• Practical, collaborative approach and confidence communicating with stakeholders

Required skills

• Experience with ERP systems
• Advanced Excel skills
