Finance Officer – ATO Finance Business Line

About the role

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is looking for experienced Finance Officers to join its Finance Business line. You will support a range of financial management and tax‑technical accounting activities across several specialised teams.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse financial and taxation data, identify issues and apply established policies.
• Prepare month‑end journals, reconciliations and contribute to the ATO’s financial statements.
• Support budget management, forecasting, accruals and general ledger mapping.
• Provide administrative and governance support for finance services, including banking management and reporting.
• Assist with corporate budgeting, strategic resource allocation and financial analysis for decision‑making.
• Manage finance, payroll, travel, GST and PAYG withholding functions, and support enterprise platforms such as SAP.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in financial management or tax accounting.
• Strong analytical ability and sound judgement in line with legislation and policy.
• Effective workload management and ability to deliver accurate results on time.
• Collaborative team player with clear communication skills.
