Finance Officer – Aged Care (4‑month contract)

About the role

Mecwacare is seeking a Finance Officer for a 4‑month contract with the possibility of becoming permanent. The position is hybrid, based in Malvern, Melbourne, and focuses on resident billing and accounts receivable for residential aged‑care services.

Key responsibilities

• Process accommodation payments and government‑funding reconciliations.
• Manage resident accounts, monitor outstanding fees and investigate billing discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with aged‑care legislation and organisational policies.
• Contribute to month‑end reporting and maintain the integrity of financial records and systems.
• Support continuous‑improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented, customer‑focused finance professional with strong analytical abilities.
• Experience in accounts receivable or aged‑care finance and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
• Organised, able to manage competing priorities and communicate confidently with residents, families, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
• Proactive problem‑solver committed to confidentiality, compliance and high financial integrity.

Required skills

• High degree of accuracy and strong administrative/organisational skills.
• Working knowledge of Australian accounting standards, statutory requirements and aged‑care sector regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including telephone etiquette.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritise multiple tasks.
