Finance Manager - Australia

About the role

K92 Mining Inc., a gold producer operating the Kainantu Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea, is looking for a Finance Manager to lead its growing Brisbane finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the role owns the finance function of K92 Mining (Australia) Pty Ltd and plays a leading part in the accounting for the PNG operating entity. It also oversees the Brisbane-based AP foreign payments team and supports expatriate payroll for the PNG site. The position involves close work with the Vancouver corporate office, the Kainantu site finance team and external advisors, and travel to the Kainantu mine site is expected.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month-end close and monthly reporting for the Australian entity, including the P&L report and cash flow forecast to Vancouver
• Prepare the annual Australian financial statements and manage the external audit
• Review the quarterly PNG consolidation workbook and lead the accounting for PNG capital (CWIP, transfers and commissioning, capitalized development and the fixed asset register)
• Review monthly PNG submissions (cost report, GL reconciliations and supporting schedules) and travel to the Kainantu site
• Manage Australian tax and statutory compliance with external advisors, including income tax, BAS, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation, STP, WorkCover and ASIC filings
• Review and release payment runs, payroll and intercompany settlements in ANZ Transactive under dual authorization, and manage banking relationships, term deposits and bank guarantees
• Lead the monthly Australian payroll and release the PNG expatriate payroll, including PSU and RSU settlements and their tax treatment
• Oversee the Brisbane AP foreign payments team, together with Australian accounts payable and the office lease
• Own the monthly intercompany reconciliations with PNG, Canada and BVI, including technical service fee invoices and recharges
• Lead the annual budget and forecasts for the Australian entity and Brisbane cost centres, and lead, develop and review the Brisbane finance team

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance and a CA or CPA designation
• 10+ years in finance or accounting roles, including leading a finance function and team
• Public practice and mining or resources experience highly regarded
• Willingness and ability to travel to Papua New Guinea; experience in PNG or other remote locations is an asset
• Only people with the right to live and work in Australia without sponsorship will be considered

Required skills

• Strong technical accounting, ideally in mining (P&E, CWIP, capitalized development, inventory, cost of sales, leases and revenue)
• Working knowledge of Australian tax and payroll compliance (income tax, BAS and GST, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation, STP)
• Multi-entity, multi-currency groups, intercompany accounting and foreign subsidiaries
• Advanced Excel and accounting/ERP systems; QuickBooks Online, Pronto or SAP SuccessFactors experience is an asset
