Executive Director – Rail Contracts & Performance

About the role

The Executive Director (Rail Contracts and Performance) provides strategic leadership for Queensland's rail transport system. You will shape contract management, operational performance and customer outcomes across a multi‑billion‑dollar portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage multi‑billion‑dollar rail contracts, including analysis of Queensland Rail service performance and capital programmes.
• Oversee the Cattle Rail and Freight Transport Services contracts and an annual expenditure budget of approximately $3 billion.
• Lead, monitor and evaluate rail contracts, measuring performance of service contracts with Queensland Rail and other providers.
• Engage with state, federal and local governments and industry executives to negotiate and influence outcomes.
• Direct rail programme performance analysis, reporting and investment activities to inform statewide network services.
• Provide high‑level strategic and technical advice to senior ministers and executive management.
• Manage recruitment, performance, development and team communication to ensure a diverse, high‑performing workforce.
• Ensure business planning, financial management and governance in line with the Public Service Act 2022.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in rail commercial and contract management, accounting or financial management.
• Ability to handle sensitive data; a criminal history check will be required.
• Willingness to disclose any prior serious disciplinary action as a condition of employment.
