Executive Director

About the role

The Executive Director will be based in Canberra and report directly to the MTAA Board. This senior leader is responsible for shaping and delivering national advocacy on key policy issues affecting the automotive sector, including the electric‑vehicle transition, skills and apprenticeships, insurance, franchising, repair information access and competition policy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead national strategic advocacy, engaging ministers, government departments and regulators on priority policy matters.
• Coordinate with state and territory association CEOs to ensure aligned positions and coherent national campaigns.
• Represent the organisation at high‑level forums, providing board‑level communication and governance oversight.
• Develop and promote policy solutions that support the growth and sustainability of automotive businesses across Australia.

Required profile

• Senior experience in a peak body, industry association, government department or ministerial office.
• Demonstrated success influencing policy outcomes with measurable results.
• Proven ability to lead through influence within a federated environment.
• Strong governance instincts and board‑level communication skills.
• Established presence in Canberra or a genuine commitment to relocate.
• Knowledge of the automotive or broader mobility sector is advantageous.
