Engineering Technician – Directed Energy

About the role

EOS is building high‑energy laser weapon capability and needs a hands‑on technician to turn designs into working systems. You will build, integrate, and operate laser hardware in Canberra and on test ranges across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Build, assemble and integrate laser system hardware across optical, mechanical, electrical and fluid subsystems using drawings and work instructions.
• Fabricate, terminate and test cable harnesses, fluid lines and mechanical assemblies to defence quality standards.
• Set up, operate and maintain the system during laboratory testing, range trials and customer demonstrations, following trial director and laser safety officer directions.
• Perform first‑ and second‑line maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair, including component replacement, recalibration and realignment.
• Prepare, transport, set up and pack down the system for range activities, handling heavy and sensitive assemblies safely.

Required profile

• Trade qualification or Advanced Diploma in electrical, electronic, mechanical or mechatronic discipline, or equivalent ADF technical training.
• Minimum 5 years experience building, integrating, testing or maintaining complex electro‑mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated experience in a military, weapons or range environment with knowledge of range safety procedures.
• Ability to work from engineering drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams without close supervision.
• Current driver licence and physical capability for field work, including manual handling and extended outdoor periods.
