Engineering Manager – ML Evaluation Platform

About the role

Canva is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Evaluation Platform team, which builds the end‑to‑end evaluation lifecycle for AI features. You will shape the platform vision and guide a senior engineering group through growth and consolidation.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the evaluation platform strategy, consolidating test‑like evals, comparative evaluation (Arena), monitoring evals, and labelling tooling into a self‑serve platform.
• Partner with AI feature teams and CORE leadership to anticipate evaluation capabilities needed for upcoming initiatives.
• Coordinate with adjacent platform teams and the evaluation programme PM to ensure seamless ML lifecycle experience.
• Drive large, cross‑team initiatives from ideation to delivery with autonomous decision‑making.
• Coach and mentor a team of 9+ engineers, providing feedback and supporting personal growth goals.

Required profile

• Proven track record in technical people leadership, mentoring senior engineers and staff‑level ICs.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, able to navigate competing priorities across multiple internal customer teams.
• First‑principles thinker who can make informed decisions in a fast‑moving GenAI evaluation space.

Required skills

• Experience with ML evaluation, LLM systems, or ML platform engineering.
• Design and building of complex, distributed systems involving machine learning.
