Engagement and Communications Officer, First Nations

About the role

The Engagement and Communications Officer, First Nations will lead culturally appropriate communication and outreach initiatives for Murdoch University’s First Nations portfolio. Working autonomously, you will support the Pro Vice‑Chancellor, First Nations, by building relationships with Indigenous communities and prospective students to increase awareness and participation in university pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver culturally appropriate communications, promotional materials and storytelling to support community‑led outreach.
• Coordinate messaging for First Nations programs, pathways and events such as Birak and Deadly Dreaming.
• Promote key outreach and community events through various channels.
• Manage procurement, inventory and distribution of engagement uniforms, merchandise and branded items.
• Collaborate with the Engagement and Outreach Lead and School Relationships Officer to ensure coordinated engagement activities.

Required profile

• Identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidate as required by Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and build effective relationships with Indigenous communities and university stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, values and communication preferences.

• Full‑time continuous position (37.5 hours per week) with a salary range of $91 000–$98 000 AUD (pro‑rata) plus 17 % superannuation.
