District Medical Officer – Procedural & Non‑Procedural (East Kimberley)

About the role

The District Medical Officer (DMO) pool supports WA Country Health Service in East Kimberley, based at Kununurra Hospital. DMOs deliver comprehensive primary and emergency health services to remote Aboriginal communities and provide outreach to Warmun, Halls Creek, Kalumburu and Wyndham.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑acuity emergency care, including thrombolysis, cardiac arrest management and fracture reductions.
• Perform obstetric procedures such as emergency caesarean sections during monthly visits to Halls Creek.
• Conduct scheduled outreach clinics across remote communities, spending roughly 20% of time on‑site outside Kununurra.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, allied health, Aboriginal health workers and telehealth specialists.
• Share responsibilities across wards, emergency, clinics and remote primary care, supported by the WACHS Command Centre.

Required profile

• Medical degree with current AHPRA registration.
• Relevant specialist college assessment outcomes for emergency medicine or obstetrics.
• Experience appropriate to Medical Practitioner (MP) Year 1‑6 levels.
• Willingness to work in remote settings and undertake regular outreach visits.
