Director, Scams Prevention Framework Legal

About the role

This Board‑appointed, five‑year renewable position leads the legal decision‑making function for the Scams Prevention Framework. You will ensure fair, consistent and timely outcomes for complex scam complaints involving consumers, financial institutions, telecoms and digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the scams decision‑making function, providing technical and professional direction.
• Shape AFCA’s dispute‑resolution policy, influence industry practice and communicate approaches to prevent future disputes.
• Engage senior executives, regulators, government bodies and other stakeholders to champion effective dispute resolution and financial fairness.

Required profile

• Distinguished legal credentials with extensive expertise in consumer law and practice.
• Proven executive‑level judgment and accountability for complex outcomes.
• Strategic thinking, analytical acumen and ability to distil intricate legal concepts into clear guidance.
• Influential communication and negotiation skills with senior stakeholders.
• Visionary leadership, consultative approach and unwavering independence and impartiality.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of relevant product law, regulation and industry standards.
