Director of Place and Community

About the role

The Shire of Mundaring is seeking a strategic leader to shape places, connect communities and drive an integrated place and community function. Reporting to the CEO, you will provide vision and direction for planning, regulation and community services to enhance the lived experience of residents and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Define place intent, community needs and service outcomes in partnership with Built and Natural Environment teams.
• Align planning, regulatory and community service functions to deliver integrated, place‑based outcomes.
• Provide strategic advice to Council and maintain strong external relationships.
• Oversee project governance to ensure facilities are fit for purpose and ready for activation.
• Lead the transformation of the Directorate, promoting efficient, customer‑focused and community‑centred services.

Required profile

• Strategic, community‑focused leader with experience in planning, place or community sectors.
• Proven ability to bring together multiple functions and deliver practical, integrated outcomes.
• Strong communicator comfortable advising Council and influencing across organisational boundaries.
• Experience operating in complex environments balancing community expectations, regulatory responsibilities and service performance.
• Track record of leading change, improving services or delivering community‑impact initiatives.

• Total reward package up to $280,000 per year (base salary up to $231,000 plus superannuation and vehicle allowance).
