Director of Franchising (Legal) – Senior Lawyer

About the role

We are partnering with a leading specialist commercial law firm to recruit a Director of Franchising (Legal) in Sydney. This senior position will lead and grow an established franchising practice, advising a sophisticated client base that includes emerging networks and major national and international brands.

Key responsibilities

• Advise franchisors on all aspects of the Franchising Code of Conduct.
• Draft and negotiate franchise agreements, disclosure documents and related documentation.
• Provide counsel on franchise network growth, restructuring and governance.
• Manage franchise transfers, renewals, terminations and dispute resolution.
• Advise on retail and commercial leasing matters.
• Oversee intellectual property protection and licensing.
• Handle commercial contracts and corporate advisory work.
• Build trusted relationships with business owners and executive leadership teams.
• Mentor and develop junior lawyers while shaping the future direction of the practice.

Required profile

• Significant experience acting for franchisors rather than franchisees.
• Deep expertise in Australian franchise law and the Franchising Code of Conduct.
• Commercially astute adviser who understands operational realities of franchise networks.
• Confidence and credibility to advise CEOs, founders and executive teams.
• Enjoys developing long‑term client relationships.
