About the role
The Director of Building Standards leads Building Standards Tasmania, delivering efficient regulatory services and overseeing the building standards trade portfolio in line with the Department’s strategic direction.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and lead the Building Standards Tasmania team.
- Ensure delivery of contemporary regulatory services for building standards.
- Oversee performance and management of the building standards trade portfolio.
- Make statutory decisions and provide strategic guidance.
- Align operations with the Department of Justice’s strategic objectives.
Required profile
- Extensive senior leadership experience, preferably in a regulatory or public‑sector environment.
- Deep understanding of building standards, construction regulation and compliance.
- Proven ability to drive strategic initiatives and manage complex portfolios.
- Strong decision‑making authority for statutory responsibilities.

- Competitive salary range of $145,439 – $155,221 per annum.
- Permanent senior role with flexibility to locate in South, North or North West Tasmania.
