Senior Electrical Engineer – Rail & Metro Projects

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its rail team in Sydney. You will design and deliver low‑voltage, high‑voltage, earthing and bonding solutions for major rail projects across Australia, working within a hybrid flexible‑working model.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lighting, low‑voltage, high‑voltage, earthing and bonding engineering services for rail projects.
• Produce engineering drawings, reports, specifications and tender packages from concept through construction.
• Conduct feasibility studies, load calculations and site inspections.
• Review electrical designs to ensure compliance with Australian codes, client requirements and SMEC standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to maintain quality and timeliness of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of industry experience in electrical design for rail or transport infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of Australian codes, safety assurance and system engineering processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• CPEng registration or active progress towards registration.
