Dietetic Assistant - Room Service Support

About the role

The Dietetic Assistant (Room Service Support) supports patient nutrition and wellbeing at Caboolture Hospital, working within the Dietetics and Food Services team. The role provides direct patient care by helping patients choose appropriate meals, monitoring nutritional intake and supporting safe, effective nutrition interventions that match individual dietary needs. It involves close collaboration with patients, dietitians, nursing staff and food service teams.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with patients and multidisciplinary teams on dietary requirements, meal selection, nutritional intake monitoring and nutrition support.
• Provide menu support in a phone-based, patient-facing setting, using computerised menu systems to record meal selections, generate reports and support food service operations.
• Identify patients at nutritional risk using screening tools and implement approved interventions such as supplements, food charts, high-protein snacks and referrals to dietitians.
• Assist patients in choosing meals that meet therapeutic and texture-modified diet requirements while ensuring food safety compliance.
• Support clinical nutrition services by monitoring special diets, providing delegated clinical duties, training food service staff and contributing to quality improvement.
