Design Manager – Transmission

About the role

ACCIONA is seeking a Design Manager – Transmission to lead the development of high‑voltage (HV) and medium‑voltage (MV) transmission line and substation designs across Australia. Based in Melbourne, the role will coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, ensure technical consistency and drive innovation from early planning through delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, coordination and delivery of HV/MV transmission designs.
• Ensure designs are safe, compliant, cost‑effective and constructible.
• Manage interfaces across civil, electrical, protection and control disciplines.
• Mentor engineering teams and uplift capability.
• Apply Australian standards and govern technical quality.
• Identify design risks and propose technical solutions.
• Champion innovation and continuous improvement.
• Support stakeholder engagement, proposals and business development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered status (RPEV, RPEQ, NER, CPEng) or ability to achieve within six months – desirable.
• 10+ years leading engineering teams on infrastructure or transmission projects.
• 5+ years of fieldwork supporting hands‑on engineering and site collaboration.
• Experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors is highly regarded.

• Substation design and protection & control systems.
• Civil interface coordination.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and AS/NZS standards.
