Design Manager - Ports

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Design Manager to lead the delivery of ports and maritime infrastructure projects across Melbourne and the wider region. You will own design packages, manage multidisciplinary teams and act as the primary client interface for complex coastal and waterfront developments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design management and delivery of port expansions, marine structures, coastal infrastructure and waterfront projects.
• Own scope, programme, technical delivery and client outcomes for assigned work packages.
• Coordinate with AECOM teams locally, nationally and globally to leverage design capability.
• Build trusted relationships with port authorities, government agencies and private sector clients.
• Manage end‑to‑end project delivery, including design, commercial management, programme coordination and multidisciplinary integration.
• Provide leadership across maritime and coastal engineering disciplines, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Mentor engineers and support the growth of AECOM’s Ports & Maritime capability worldwide.

Required profile

• Significant experience as a Design Manager, Technical Lead, Project Manager or Senior Engineer on ports, coastal or maritime infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams on complex maritime projects.
• Demonstrated experience delivering design and planning for ports, marine structures, coastal infrastructure or waterfront developments.
• Strong client engagement and stakeholder management skills with port authorities, government agencies or major infrastructure clients.
• Experience coordinating teams across multiple offices, regions or international delivery environments.
• Passion for infrastructure that supports coastal communities, trade and long‑term economic growth.
