Design Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Design Manager to join SMCT's Property, Infrastructure & Facilities team. In this client‑side project leadership role you will manage the planning and design of capital projects across our portfolio of 11 cemeteries, shaping spaces that serve the community for generations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, scoping and design delivery of capital projects across multiple SMCT sites.
• Manage external design consultants to deliver high‑quality designs and tender documentation.
• Develop and manage project budgets, programs, procurement plans and related documentation.
• Coordinate stakeholder consultation, facilitate working groups and design meetings.
• Oversee tender processes, including assessments, recommendations and contract documentation.
• Monitor project scope, cost, quality and schedule to ensure successful outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a client‑side Design Manager, Project Manager or similar infrastructure delivery role.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
• Excellent communication, report writing and presentation abilities.
• Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Project Management or related discipline.
• Highly organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Project.
