Consultant General Surgeon – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term (NT, Australia)

About the role

We are seeking a Consultant General Surgeon for a 12‑month fixed‑term position across Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital in the Northern Territory. The role offers a diverse caseload, clinical autonomy and the chance to serve remote and Indigenous communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive general surgical care to in‑patients and ambulatory patients.
• Conduct inpatient ward rounds and run outpatient clinics.
• Participate in a 24/7 on‑call roster, including emergency surgery.
• Offer specialist advice to clinicians in remote and isolated centres across the NT.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary teams, referral pathways and clinical governance.
• Teach, mentor and supervise junior medical staff.

Required profile

• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent.
• Eligibility for Specialist Registration with AHPRA.
• Proven experience as a Consultant General Surgeon.
• Commitment to rural, regional and Indigenous health.
• International Medical Graduates are encouraged to apply.
