Community Engagement Advisor

About the role

The Community Engagement Advisor supports the planning and delivery of inclusive, accessible, and meaningful engagement activities that inform Council decisions and improve community outcomes. Reporting to the Community Engagement Lead, you will work closely with internal teams to design processes that align with the Council’s policy and strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing engagement activities such as workshops, pop‑ups, and community events.
• Manage and maintain the Council’s “Your Say” online engagement platform and support staff usage.
• Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on best‑practice engagement approaches.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, local groups, and stakeholders.
• Collect, analyse, and report on community feedback to support continuous improvement and decision‑making.
• Ensure all engagement communications are clear, consistent, and accessible across digital and print channels.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in community engagement, communications, community development or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience delivering community engagement or communication plans.
• Strong stakeholder‑management and advisory skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with high‑quality content creation.
• Proven ability to collect, analyse and report data to inform outcomes.
• Organisational agility, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Collaborative mindset, capable of working independently or within a team.
• Current Class C driver’s licence and flexibility to work outside standard hours when required.
