Communications Adviser

About the role

The ACT Executive is recruiting a Communications Adviser (Adviser Level 2, position 38071) in the Government Communication Unit. The unit provides a holistic communication and engagement service to ACT Government Ministers, supporting announcements across multiple channels and working closely with Government Directorates to engage the Canberra community. Advisers report to the Chief of Staff of the Government Communications Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic communication and engagement advice to Ministers
• Coordinate resources to support Government's communications priorities and identify and share key messages across platforms
• Prepare materials supporting public announcements and take part in traditional media and issues management
• In a small team, coordinate content across social media and web-based platforms
• Work with ACT public service officials on communication and engagement strategies

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in communication, arts, journalism or digital content creation, or previous experience in a similar position
• Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with competing deadlines and priorities
• High-level oral and written communication skills
• Understanding of digital media platforms, including content creation and writing for online platforms
• Experience managing social media profiles and websites is viewed favourably; experience writing for online platforms including social media is required
• An understanding of the roles and functions of the ACT Government is preferred but not essential
