Commercial Manager – Defence Projects

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Commercial Manager to support the Hawk Lead‑in Fighter (LIF) project for the Australian Defence Forces. You will use your stakeholder management expertise and commercial acumen to drive optimal outcomes for both the customer and the business.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and manage moderately complex contracts and agreements with minimal supervision.
• Support contract and bid status reviews, providing justification and clarification of commercial activities.
• Oversee day‑to‑day contract management within the commercial area of BAE Systems Australia.
• Lead commercial aspects of business winning, including negotiation of contract changes and claim management.
• Ensure financial and commercial exposures are mitigated through appropriate frameworks such as export controls, finance, product safety, insurance and IP rights.
• Coordinate commercial interfaces with Procurement/Supply Chain and flow‑down of head‑contract requirements.
• Prepare and deliver Commercial Management Plans and negotiating strategies.
• Mentor junior team members and allocate tasks to meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in a commercial role, preferably within defence or aerospace.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Strong strategic mindset with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead or support moderately complex negotiations.
• Demonstrated relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Curiosity and problem‑solving ability for non‑routine challenges.
