Commercial Lawyer – Northern Territory Government

About the role

The Commercial Division of the Northern Territory Government seeks a qualified lawyer to deliver high‑quality commercial legal services across a range of government projects and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial legal advice and representation to the NT Government, its agencies and statutory bodies.
• Prepare and review contracts, court documentation, correspondence and briefing materials.
• Report progress to the Director and supervising senior lawyer.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant laws, practices and procedures.
• Communicate legal concepts clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Represent the NT Government with clients and stakeholders in a professional manner.
• Organise workload, manage priorities and meet deadlines.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian legal practitioner with eligibility for a local practising certificate.
• Significant experience in commercial law, including drafting and negotiation.
• Proven ability to manage a personal legal practice and meet client deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
