Deputy Associate

About the role

The Deputy Associate provides essential support to a judge within a court environment, assisting with daily chamber management, legal research, and the preparation of court materials and judgments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the conduct of court proceedings, including transcription of orders and courtroom management.
• Manage the associate’s inbox, respond to enquiries, and support day‑to‑day chamber operations.
• Conduct legal research, identify relevant legislation, summarise authorities and maintain research materials.
• Enter case data into the court’s case management system to reflect outcomes of court events.
• Prepare case summaries, maintain files, and support the judge in judgment drafting and editing.
• Support general operations of chambers and perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• Completed or near‑completed qualification in law with a strong academic record.
• Well‑developed interpersonal skills, tact, discretion and the ability to communicate effectively with judiciary members, legal professionals and the public.
• Demonstrated organisational ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• High‑level keyboard proficiency and adaptability to changing priorities.
• Willingness to travel on circuits as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Keyboard proficiency for fast and accurate data entry.

• Salary range $79,125‑$86,246 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.
