Commercial Finance Specialist

About the role

The Commercial Finance Specialist will join the operational leadership team at Moranbah North Mine on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will apply an innovative financial lens to operational decisions, covering analysis, reporting, governance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop commercial insights to support site leadership and operational teams in value‑accretive decisions.
• Provide business case modelling and recommendations for on‑site SIB capital and capital expenditure.
• Equip discipline managers with reporting tools for asset reliability, life‑cycle management and total cost of ownership.
• Collaborate on risk registers and evaluate financial impact of risk mitigation strategies.
• Analyse deviations from plan, identify root causes and communicate financial performance implications.
• Perform cost variance assessments and recommend improvements for capital and operating costs.
• Support accurate forecasting and budgeting, incorporating risks and opportunities.
• Deliver commercial input, analysis and recommendations to the Commercial Team and produce discipline‑specific financial reports.

Required profile

• Postgraduate or tertiary qualification in Business Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• CA/CPA qualified or actively pursuing qualification.
• Knowledge of Queensland coal‑mining legislation (desirable).
• Experience managing complex commercial finance projects in a large organisation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with senior stakeholders.
• Proactive problem‑solving attitude and high level of rigor.

Required skills

• Integrated ERP system experience – SAP.
