Commercial Counsel

About the role

Marsh is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join its Commercial team in Australia. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week in the office, and is offered on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, practical legal advice across Marsh and Mercer Australia businesses.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers and the insurance market.
• Review marketing materials for legal and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare industry‑specific documents such as binding authorities, opinion letters, and distributor agreements.
• Analyse new laws and regulations and advise on their impact.
• Manage external counsel and ensure quality of their work.
• Support and develop junior team members and liaise between legal and corporate groups.

Required profile

• Experience as a lawyer in commercial, corporate or insurance‑related legal work.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail, drafting and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
