Claims Technical Specialist - Group Life Insurance

About the role

TAL, a life insurer backed by Daiichi Life, is hiring a Claims Technical Specialist in Sydney. The role provides expert technical guidance and oversight across Group Claims, supporting Claims Consultants and Senior Claims Consultants on complex, sensitive and adverse claims. It also builds technical capability across the claims function through coaching, mentoring, case reviews and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice, guidance and direction on complex, sensitive and technically challenging claims
• Oversee adverse claims, including matters involving contractual remedies
• Review, endorse and authorise claim decisions within delegated authority levels
• Guide claim strategy and help Consultants identify appropriate pathways
• Coach and mentor Claims Consultants and Senior Claims Consultants
• Support the development of delegated authority through coaching and claim reviews
• Facilitate case conferences, technical forums and claim strategy discussions
• Support quality assurance, audit, governance and risk activities

Required profile

• Significant experience in Group Life Insurance claims, with technical expertise across TPD and Income Protection claims
• Experience managing complex, sensitive and adverse claims
• Advanced knowledge of life insurance products, policy interpretation, claims assessment principles and relevant legislation and regulation
• Experience coaching, mentoring or developing claims professionals
• Ability to challenge and influence claim strategy and decision-making

• Analyse complex information and give clear, well-reasoned technical direction
• Strong written and verbal communication, translating complex technical matters into practical guidance
• Stakeholder management across Claims and with internal and external parties
• Identify technical themes, capability gaps and improvement opportunities
