Chemical Laboratory Technician I – Coal Lab

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Chemical Laboratory Technician I to join its coal laboratory and processing team in Mackay. You will work under the supervision of the Manager or Project Manager, handling sample processing, testing and analysis for coal production, exploration and wash plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform physicochemical analysis of coal in line with ISO and ASTM standards, including Ash, Rapid Ash, Calorific Value, Moisture, Total Sulfur and Phosphorus.
• Process coal exploration samples, conduct flotation and density‑separation work, and support CHPP circuit sampling.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment, validate test results and ensure accuracy of all analyses.
• Plan and schedule test work, maintain safety and environmental compliance, and report hazards or incidents promptly.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in coal mining operations, sampling and laboratory testing.
• Hands‑on experience with coal handling preparation plant (CHPP) circuits and coal exploration programs.
• Ability to work on‑site in a mine laboratory environment and under pressure.
• Strong organisational skills, safety consciousness and a customer‑service focus.
