Casual Vessel Master IV – Swan River Cruises

About the role

Captain Cook Cruises, part of the Journey Beyond Group, operates sightseeing cruises on the Swan River in Perth. It is seeking a casual Master IV to safely operate and navigate its vessels, lead onboard operations, ensure compliance with maritime regulations and deliver guest experiences through professional service and engaging commentary.

Key responsibilities

• Provide informative and engaging onboard commentary covering local knowledge, history, wildlife and points of interest.
• Keep passengers, crew and contractors safe and well.
• Ensure compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS), vessel certifications and regulatory requirements.
• Run pre-departure checks, safety briefings, emergency drills and incident reporting.
• Monitor weather, sea and operating conditions for safe voyage planning.
• Lead, supervise and support crew members.
• Oversee vessel cleanliness, maintenance reporting and operational readiness.
• Complete vessel logs, operational and compliance records accurately and on time.
• Liaise with guests, crew and shore-based teams.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in the marine tourism industry (essential).
• Experience as a Vessel Master in Perth coastal waters, including the Swan River (highly desirable).
• Ability to work varied hours across a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays.
• Valid driver's licence (essential).

Required skills

• Current AMSA Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45m Near Coastal).
• First Aid and CPR certificate.
• Current AMSA medical.
