Backend Technical Lead (AWS & Golang)

About the role

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is looking for a Backend Technical Lead to lead the team behind the core streaming platform and APIs that power 9Now and Stan. It is a hands-on role for a technical expert who wants to build resilient, high-concurrency distributed systems while growing a high-performing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Write, review and deploy high-performance Golang code by example.
• Design and own the full lifecycle of cloud-based distributed systems and APIs.
• Drive operational excellence through CI/CD, automated testing and staged rollouts.
• Line manage and mentor engineers, supporting their career growth and wellbeing.
• Champion AI and automation to improve system monitoring and infrastructure.
• Work with Product Managers to align technical roadmaps with business goals.
• Resolve complex production issues by leading root-cause analysis and resolution.

Required profile

• Deep technical expertise in developing and maintaining applications with Golang.
• Prior technical lead experience.
• Strong security focus on application best practices and auditing.
• Agile leadership skills to remove roadblocks and empower team autonomy.
• Right to lawfully work and live in Australia.
