Automotive Engineering Manager

About the role

A financial services institution is creating a new team in a highly specialised area of its business and is looking for an Automotive Engineering Manager based in Sydney. The role leads the Automotive Research Team, which provides the organisation's main source of automotive engineering intelligence covering vehicle risk assessment, emerging technology analysis, OEM relationship management, expert claims authority and workforce safety standards. It turns deep automotive engineering expertise into structured intelligence that informs underwriting and pricing decisions, protects the workforce from emerging technology risks and helps defend technically complex claims.

The manager acts as the senior technical interface with the automotive industry, maintains relationships with OEM leadership and represents the organisation within international automotive insurance research networks.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline directly relevant to the automotive domain (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Automotive or Electrical/Electronic Engineering).
• At least 8 years of experience in the automotive industry, with exposure to vehicle design, OEM aftersales operations, automotive compliance or automotive insurance research.
• Demonstrated experience managing external stakeholder relationships at director or senior management level within an OEM, Tier 1 supplier or automotive research organisation.
• Project management experience, including leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple concurrent workstreams.

Required skills

• Electric and hybrid vehicle architecture, including high-voltage systems, battery management, ADAS integration and the repair and safety implications of these technologies.
• Vehicle repair practices, parts supply chain structures and the link between vehicle design, insurance risk and repair economics.
• Producing technical reports or expert opinions for regulatory, legal or dispute resolution purposes.
