Assistant Accountant

About the role

Smokeball, a fast-growing legal tech software company with teams across Australia, the US and the UK, is hiring an Assistant Accountant. The role ensures accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, supports the financial integrity of the business and manages vendor payments and employee remuneration. The position is open only to Australian residents; sponsorship is not offered and the company does not work with agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Process and manage all accounts payable transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Reconcile company credit card and staff reimbursement to the general ledger.
• Gain exposure to the full month-end close cycle and assist with balance sheet reconciliation.
• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions and ensure proper documentation.
• Collaborate with other departments and help address payroll-related queries.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
• 2+ years in an Australian accounting or accounts role.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable and general finance operations.
• High attention to detail, strong numeracy and a commitment to confidentiality.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise across teams and answer employee queries.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and payment deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
