ARC Grant-Funded Researcher – Low‑Carbon Concrete

About the role

The School of Civil Engineering and Construction at Adelaide University is seeking an ARC Grant‑Funded Researcher to lead material development for low‑carbon concrete using calcined halloysite, recycled plastic fibres and AI‑driven optimisation. The three‑year fixed‑term role bridges laboratory research and industry translation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct experimental studies on calcined halloysite and plastic fibre incorporation into concrete mixes.
• Develop and apply AI‑assisted optimisation models to improve mix performance and carbon footprint.
• Coordinate with industry partners to prototype and validate new concrete formulations.
• Perform mechanical and durability testing on developed materials.
• Supervise and collaborate with HDR students, technical staff and multidisciplinary researchers.
• Prepare technical reports, publications and presentations for academic and industry audiences.

Required profile

• PhD in civil engineering, materials science or a related discipline, or equivalent research experience.
• Demonstrated experience in sustainable concrete or polymer‑fibre material development.
• Strong track record of publishing research and working with industry partners.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
