Active Ageing Exercise Group Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a warm, friendly and reliable volunteer to support its Wednesday afternoon Active Living Group, which brings residents together in a friendly, social environment so they can stay engaged. The group runs Wednesdays from 2:30/3:00pm to 4:30pm, with flexibility depending on the day's activities. While the role suits a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or allied health student, no special experience is needed.

Key responsibilities

• Help carers escort residents to the exercise location for a 3:15pm start every Wednesday afternoon
• Offer friendly conversation and reassurance along the way
• Make residents feel welcomed, included and comfortable
• Take part in the group, with guidance from the professional team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who run the exercise program

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check, arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Patient, dependable and encouraging, with a genuine enjoyment of spending time with older people
• Friendly approach and enthusiasm; no special skills required

Volunteer interviews and orientation must take place on a weekday during business hours. HammondCare is an independent Christian charity providing the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, funded by the Australian Government, and aims to connect older people with volunteers in their local community.
