Accountant – Finance Operations (Sydney/Melbourne)

About the role

We are looking for an Accountant to support day‑to‑day financial operations for Focus Partners Australia and Escala. Working closely with senior accountants, you will ensure accurate processing of invoices, expenses and bank transactions while helping to maintain strong financial controls across both businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Enter supplier invoices and bills into Xero, run weekly accounts payable payments and resolve discrepancies.
• Review employee expense claims, follow up on missing documentation and prepare monthly expense reports.
• Support debtor management, monitor aged receivables and assist with allocation and reconciliation of accounts receivable.
• Code daily bank transactions, maintain banking records and complete bank reconciliations in Xero.
• Prepare internal intercompany invoices and ensure accurate cost allocations between Focus Partners Australia and Escala.
• Assist with month‑end activities, including reconciliations, data preparation and documentation for audit readiness.
• Provide general finance support such as invoicing, system updates and ad‑hoc reporting tasks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in public practice or a similar finance/assistant accountant role.
• Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations.
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
• Experience using Xero or comparable accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational ability and proactive communication skills.
