Training Officer – Retail & Community Development

About the role

Outback Stores is seeking a passionate Training Officer to join the People & Culture team at its Darwin Support Office. You will deliver accredited retail training programs to staff in remote Aboriginal communities, providing both face‑to‑face and virtual support while travelling up to a week at a time.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and assess accredited retail training programs in remote Aboriginal communities.
• Provide engaging face‑to‑face and virtual training, monitor progress and give feedback.
• Conduct Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessments and offer learning support.
• Coordinate training visits, support VET in Schools programs, and maintain accurate student records using VETtrak.
• Ensure compliance with RTO requirements and contribute to continuous improvement of training resources.

Required profile

• TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
• SIR40316 Certificate IV in Retail Management.
• Unrestricted driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly to remote communities.
• Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate (or ability to obtain).
• Minimum two years’ experience as a trainer and assessor, preferably in diverse cultural settings.

Required skills

• Strong training, assessment, mentoring and coaching abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• High cultural intelligence when working with Australian Indigenous communities.
• Proficiency with VETtrak student management system.
• Computer literacy for data gathering, interpretation and reporting.
