Temporary Tax Director – Asia Pacific (12‑month contract)

About the role

The Temporary Tax Director will lead tax compliance and advisory activities across the Asia‑Pacific region for CIBC. This 12‑month contract position supports the bank’s rapid growth in markets such as Japan, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and mainland China, ensuring adherence to local tax laws while mitigating risk.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee tax compliance functions for APAC, coordinating with the UK Tax Team and external advisers.
• Prepare and file Australian consolidated Company Group and Branch Corporation tax returns, including international dealings schedules.
• Manage Australian Country‑by‑Country Reporting and monthly corporation tax instalment payments.
• Prepare monthly Australian BAS returns and review Australian FBT returns prepared by Finance colleagues.
• Provide tax advisory support for wholesale capital markets opportunities and cross‑border lending transactions.
• Collaborate with Head Office Tax to ensure accurate consolidated tax reporting for the APAC region.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate tax compliance and advisory within APAC jurisdictions.
• Strong understanding of Australian tax legislation, including BAS, FBT and Country‑by‑Country Reporting.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams and external advisers.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with senior stakeholders across regions.
