Tailings Engineer

About the role

KCB is seeking Tailings Engineers to join its multidisciplinary team in Brisbane. You will support the design, investigation and construction of large‑scale mining and water management projects, gaining hands‑on experience across the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and undertake geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring for tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps and water management structures.
• Coordinate and supervise field activities such as drilling, sampling, laboratory testing, earthworks monitoring and contractor management.
• Prepare engineering deliverables including technical reports, drawings, specifications, presentations and quantity estimates.
• Collaborate with KCB teams across Australia and internationally as project needs arise.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Geotechnical) with 3–5 years’ experience in civil or geotechnical engineering.
• Developing understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics and foundation engineering.
• Exposure to slope stability, seepage analysis, dam and embankment design, earthworks, site investigation and laboratory testing.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM, CDA or willingness to learn.
• Strong written communication skills for high‑quality technical reporting.

Required skills

• Use of geotechnical software (e.g., FLAC, PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W).
• Field investigation techniques including drilling, sampling and monitoring.
• Laboratory testing of soils and rock.
• Desktop assessments and data interpretation.
• Preparation of technical reports, drawings and specifications.
